Dental Hygienist

At our Practice we value the role that our Dental Hygienists play in helping you achieve and maintain your best smile. Regular professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar, combined with looking after your teeth and gums properly at home, will help keep your mouth healthy. A clean and healthy mouth will improve your appearance, help you to keep your teeth and give you fresh breath.

Dental Hygiene Examination/Consultation

Our Dental hygienists will carry out a full examination of the gum tissues to check how healthy your mouth is. This includes checking for areas of bleeding and other signs of inflammation that are signs of gum disease. Checking plaque levels and presence of tartar will also be an indicator of how healthy your mouth is. An appropriate treatment plan will be put in place to help achieve a clean healthy smile.

Treatment

The hygienist's main work is to prevent and treat gum disease. This includes professionally cleaning your teeth by removing plaque and tartar (usually called a ‘scale and polish' or a prophylaxis).

The treatment involves removal of all plaque, tartar and stains present on the tooth surface above and below the gum margin. Oral Hygiene Instructions to help you keep your mouth clean and healthy will be given and and reviewed at each visit.

Maintenance Visits

When your gums have reached a stable condition, you may be put on a regular maintenance programme.  The frequency will depend on how well you  manage plaque control, preventing build up  and maintaining an overall healthy mouth.
